COLLEGEVILLE, PA – The Rowan University women’s lacrosse team lost at Ursinus College, 13-6 on Tuesday afternoon.
Attack Lindsay Urban (jr. Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks W.) led the Bears with three goals. Midfielders Allison Furman (jr. Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown), Kristen Wampole (so. Harleysville, PA/Souderton) and Emily Diehl (so. Lebanon, NJ/Voorhees) and attack Meghan Morley (fr. West Chester, PA/Westtown) each contributed with two goals. Furman also had one assist. Midfielders Emily Hummel (jr. Lumberton, NJ/Moorestown Friends) and Hannah Kuranz (jr. Dallas, TX/Sanford) added one goal apiece. Attack Amy Sezack (sr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and midfielder Kim Peifer (so. Collegeville, PA/Methacton) both chipped in with two assists.
Ursinus has a 7-3 record while Rowan is 4-4 overall. The Profs had six different players that scored. Midfielders Michelle Lubrano (so. Delanco, NJ/Holy Cross), Trish Harrington (jr. Mahwah, NJ/Suffern (NY)), Alli Dickey (jr. Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) and Nicole Valianti (jr. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) each had one goal along with attacks Tori Hart (sr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and Julie Angelini (fr. Forked River, NJ/Lacey Twp.). Valianti compiled four assists and Harrington had one.
Both teams totaled 18 shots. In the Bears’ goal, Alex McBride (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) made five saves. Prof goalie Lorraine Young (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) stopped three shots in 44:33 and Kerry Pehnke (so. W. Windsor, NJW. Windsor-Plainsboro N.) had one save in 15:27.
Ursinus started the game with three straight goals. The first one by Furman came at the 24 second mark with an assist from Sezack. Diehl had the second goal at 5:00 on a feed from Peifer. Urban registered an unassisted goal at 6:18. Lubrano put the Profs on the scoreboard at 15:53 and Valianti had the assist. Wampole made the score 4-1 (19:32) with an unassisted goal. Harrington cut the deficit to two (4-2) at 20:20. The Bears were ahead 6-2 at the intermission after two more goals. Diehl and Wampole each scored a goal at 25:54 and 27:55 respectively.
In the second period, Rowan trailed 6-4 after goals by Dickey (33:18) and Hart (37:27) which were both assisted by Valianti. Ursinus pulled away with six unanswered goals to lead 12-4. Furman had a free position goal at 40:48 and Morley followed four minutes later with an unassisted goal. Urban and Hummel each scored at 45:41 and 46:59 respectively. Morley (50:08) and Urban (54:38) each hit the net with a free position shot.
Angelini recorded her first collegiate goal at 56:01 with an assist from Valianti. The Profs’ last goal (56:42) was by Valianti with an assist from Harrington. With 1:28 remaining, Kuranz tallied an unassisted goal to end the scoring.
Rowan hosts conference opponent Ramapo College on Thursday April 8 at 6 p.m.
