MADISON, NJ – The Drew University women’s lacrosse team defeated visiting Rowan University, 12-7 in a nonconference game on Saturday.
The Rangers are 5-6, while the Profs have a 4-3 record. Drew was led by attack Aileen Musynke (so. Floral Park, NY/Floral Park Mem.) with three goals. Midfielder Lyndsay Rossi (so. Pennington, NJ/Pennington School) totaled two goals and two assists. Attack Stacie Brown (jr. Upper Marlboro, MD/Calverton School) and midfielder Cara Jefferies (jr. Central Square, NY/Paul V Moore) both had two goals and one assist. Attack Rebecca Schild (jr. Princeton, NJ/Princeton) found the net twice. Midfielder Sloane Coles (jr. The Plains, VA/Foxcroft School) contributed with one goal and one assist. Attack Lyndsay Fry (jr. Mountain Lakes, NJ/Morristown Beard) dished one assist.
For Rowan, midfielder Nicole Valianti (jr. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) scored twice. Attack Alayna Morris (sr. Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington Reg.) compiled one goal and one assist. Midfielders Alli Dickey (jr. Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) and Trish Harrington (jr. Mahwah, NJ/Suffern (NY)) and attacks Tori Hart (sr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and Lauren Yee (jr. Mendham, NJ/West Morris Mendham) all found the net once.
Rowan took 30 shots, while Drew had 26. Rangers’ goalie Rachel Hanley (jr. Randolph, NJ/Randolph) made 12 saves. Profs’ goalie Kerry Pehnke (so. West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro N.) stopped three shots in 16:27 and Lorraine Young (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) turned away four shots in 43:33.
Drew jumped out to a 4-0 in the first period. Musynke scored the first two goals at 6:12 and 9:25. Rossi and Brown had unassisted goals at 10:57 and 16:27 respectively. Yee found the net on a feed from Morris at 17:30 to cut the deficit to three (4-1). Schild had a goal at 22:12 and Jefferies followed with another 19 seconds later to push the lead to 6-1. Harrington’s unassisted goal at 25:46 made the score, 6-2 at the intermission.
In the second half, Jefferies (30:42) and Schild (31:35) each had a goal to increase the advantage to six (8-2). Dickey recorded an unassisted goal at 32:07, but Brown answered with a goal at 32:48. Morris’ unassisted goal at 33:43 brought Rowan within five (9-4). Rossi extended the lead to six (10-4) with an unassisted goal at 37:57. Valianti converted a free position shot at 46:04. Musynke scored on a pass from Rossi at 49:58. Coles registered a goal at 52:50 and Brown picked up the assist. Valianti (56:11) and Hart (57:54) both had a goal to end the scoring.
Rowan travels to Ursinus College on Tuesday, April 6 at 6 p.m.
