GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s lacrosse team defeated the University of Scranton, 8-6 in a nonconference game on Thursday.

The Profs improve to 10-5, while the Royals have a 6-9 record. Rowan was led by attack Alayna Morris (sr. Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington Reg.) and midfielder Alli Dickey (jr. Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) with two goals and one assist apiece. Attack Tori Hart (sr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) compiled two goals. Attack Lauren Yee (jr. Mendham, NJ/West Morris Mendham) added one goal and one assist, while midfielder Trish Harrington (jr. Mahwah, NJ/Suffern (NY)) found the net once.

For Scranton, attack Kaela Mahon (so. Avon-by-the-Sea, NJ/Saint Rose) tallied two goals. Attack Deanna Giorno (fr. Warrington, PA/Central Bucks S.), midfielders Jilliana DePaolera (fr. Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) and Kristen Pickell (jr. Ambler, PA/Wissahickon) and defender Katie Slade (jr. Buckingham, PA/Central Bucks E.) all registered one goal. Attack Caroline Pryor (jr. Robbinsville, NJ/Notre Dame) dished one assist.

Rowan took 26 shots, while Scranton had 14. Profs’ goalie Kerry Pehnke (so. West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro N.) made six saves. Royals’ goalie Kathleen Smart (fr. Hatboro, PA/Archbishop Wood) turned away 10 shots.

Scranton went ahead 1-0 on an unassisted goal by Mahon at 1:04 in the first period. Dickey answered with a goal at 2:42 to tie the score (1-1). Hart had an unassisted goal (3:30) and Pickell knotted the game at two with 5:03 on the clock. Dickey’s second goal came at 7:36. Harrington found the net on a feed from Morris at 9:32 to put Rowan up, 4-2. Slade scored at 26:01 to bring the Royals within one (4-3). Morris put back a pass from Yee at 27:32 to increase the lead to two (5-3). Mahon had an unassisted goal with 2:15 remaining to make the score, 5-4 at the intermission.

Morris recorded a free position goal at 43:40 in the second period. At the 48 minute mark, DePaolera posted an unassisted goal to come within one (6-5). Four minutes later, Yee had an unassisted goal. Hart added a goal at 54:40 with an assist by Dickey. Giorno’s free position goal with 44 seconds left to play ended the scoring.

Rowan hosts conference opponent Montclair State University in its final game of the regular season on Thursday, May 6 at 6 p.m.
