Profs Roll Over No. 17 Cougars, 12-4

UNION, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team had a 12-4 victory at 17th ranked Kean University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Thursday.

The Profs are in first place in the conference with a 21-12-1 overall record and a 12-4 NJAC mark. The Cougars are 25-10 overall and 10-5 in the conference. Right-hander Jeff White (jr. Stratford, NJ/Sterling) pitched a complete game for the win. He (6-1) allowed four earned runs and struck out eight hitters. Lefty Ryan Zamorsky (so. Branchburg, NJ/Somerville) took the loss. He (1-2) gave up six earned runs in three innings.

Rowan shortstop Marc Magliaro (so. Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) went three for four with two RBIs, two runs scored and two doubles. Center fielder Matt Citro (jr. Bloomsbury, NJ/Phillipsburg) registered two hits (four at bats), three RBIs, three runs scored, a double and a home run. Left fielder Scott Weaver (jr. Ledgewood, NJ/Roxbury) was two for four with two RBIs, two runs scored and a homer.

Second baseman Dave Lenig (sr. Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Mem.) added one hit (five at bats) and two RBIs. Right fielder Jordan Marsch (sr. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) and designated hitter Sean Bowen (so. South Harrison, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) both posted one hit (four at bats) and one run scored. First baseman Matt Johanson (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) scored twice and third baseman Mike Scott (jr. Lafayette, NJ/High Point Reg.) collected one RBI and one run scored.

For Kean, catcher Eddie Jennings (so. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Mem.) compiled two hits (four at bats), two runs scored, one RBI, a double and a home run. Center fielder Vinny Galya (so. Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) went two for four with one run scored. Left fielder Ryan Gibbons (so. Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) tallied one hit (three at bats), one RBI, one run scored and a double. Second baseman Mike Moceri (sr. Yardville, NJ/Hamilton E.) and designated hitter Ken Gregory (jr. Pittstown, NJ/Immaculata) both drove in one run.

Rowan took a 4-0 lead after scoring two runs in the second and third innings. Magliaro doubled in Johanson and Marsch in the second. Citro led off the third with a double down the right field line. Weaver drove him in with a homer to left field. The Profs tacked on four runs in the top of the fourth. With the bases loaded, Scott hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Johanson. Bowen came home on a balk and Lenig knocked in two runs with a single up the middle.

The Cougars finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth. Galya crossed the plate on a fielder’s choice by Moceri, while Gregory’s sacrifice fly plated Gibbons. Rowan increase the lead to seven (9-2) in the top of the seventh. Weaver walked and stole second. He went to third on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch. In the bottom half, Gibbons ripped a RBI double to left field. Citro hit a three-run blast in the eighth to make the score, 12-3. Jennings hit a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth to end the scoring.

Rowan travels to New Jersey City University for a NJAC doubleheader on Saturday, May 1 at 11:30 a.m.
