GLASSBORO, NJ – Attack Meghan Brady scored the game-winning goal to give 17th ranked Catholic University a 10-9 overtime victory over Rowan University on Tuesday night.

At 63:09 in the first overtime, Brady (so. Huntington Bay, NY/St. Anthony’s) found the net on a pass from midfielder Mary Swarthout (so. Rockville, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel). Trailing 9-8, Brady’s goal at 59:09 in the second period sent the game into overtime. Midfielder Kelly Ryan (jr. Levittown, NY/MacArthur) picked up the assist.

Catholic improves to 8-6, while Rowan has an 8-5 record. Brady led the Cardinals with three goals and one assist. Midfileder Caroline Taltavull (jr. Gaithersburg, MD/Gaithersburg) tallied two goals. Midfielders Kate Narzikul (sr. Media, PA/Merion Mercy Academy), Lindsay Davenport (jr. Delran, NJ/Delran) and Ryan all posted one goal and one assist. Attack Katie Buonpastore (jr. Lansdale, PA/Lansdale Catholic) and midfielder Christine Rogers (jr. Monmouth Beach, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) each scored once. Attack Laura Haring (sr. Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) and Swarthout collected one assist apiece.

For the Profs, midfielder Nicole Valianti (jr. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) and attack Lauren Yee (jr. Mendham, NJ/West Morris Mendham) both scored three goals. Attacks Alayna Morris (sr. Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington Reg.), Ellen Brigham (fr. Oakton, VA/Oakton) and Tori Hart (sr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) all had one goal. Midfielder Alli Dickey (jr. Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) contributed with two assists.

Catholic took 32 shots, while Rowan had 23. Cardinals’ goalie Melissa Brashear (sr. Pittsburgh, PA/Oakland Catholic) made one save in 50:54 and goalie Gabby Sena (so. Farmingdale, NJ/St. John Vianney) turned away three shots in 15:06. Profs’ goalie Kerry Pehnke (so. West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro N.) stopped 14 shots.

Rowan went ahead 1-0 at the six minute mark in the first period on a goal by Hart. Taltavull tied the game (1-1) at 21:24 and Davenport’s goal at 22:29 put Catholic up 2-1. The Profs had three straight goals from Valianti (24:19), Brigham (25:09) and Yee (27:26) to take a 4-2 lead. With 27 seconds left in the half, Brady had an unassisted goal to make the score, 4-3 at the intermission.

Catholic started the second period with two straight goals by Ryan (30:48) and Taltavull (31:00). Yee’s unassisted goal at 34:41 tied the game (5-5). Buonpastore (35:46) and Narzikul (38:05) had back-to-back goals to go ahead, 7-5. Valianti’s unassisted goal at 44:44 brought the Profs within one (7-6).

Yee (49:42) and Valianti (50:54) each converted a free position shot to put Rowan up, 8-7. Rogers found the net on a pass from Davenport at 51:28. Morris answered with an unassisted goal at 52:54, making the score, 9-8. With 51 seconds left in regulation, Brady’s goal sent the game into overtime.

Next, Rowan travels to Rutgers-Camden on Thursday, April 22 for a 4 p.m. conference game.
