UNION, NJ – The Rowan University women’s lacrosse team won 14-3 at Kean University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday afternoon.
Attacks Alayna Morris (sr. Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington Reg.) and Leah Hershey (jr. Glen Rock, PA/Susquehannock) each contributed with three goals. Midfielder Trish Harrington (jr. Mahwah, NJ/Suffern (NY)) chipped in with two goals and two assists. Midfielder Michelle Lubrano (so. Delanco, NJ/Holy Cross) and attack Tori Hart (sr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) added two goals and one assist apiece. Attack Lauren Yee (jr. Mendham, NJ/West Morris Mendham) totaled one goal and four assists. Attack Megan Jones (fr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) scored once and midfielder Nicole Valianti (jr. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) had an assist.
Rowan has a 6-4 record with a 2-0 conference mark. Kean drops to 4-7 overall and 1-3 in the NJAC. For the Cougars, midfielders Lyndsey Cannon (fr. Delran, NJ/Delran), Julie Bachovchin (sr. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) and Erica Kelly (jr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) all had one goal.
Rowan finished the game with 24 shots while Kean only took seven. Goalie Lorraine Young (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) played 33:32 in the Profs’ goal and Kerry Pehnke (so. W. Windsor, NJ/W. Windsor-Plainsboro N.) made two saves in 26:28. Cougar goalies Brittany Gibbs (jr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) and Jules Keeley (fr. Ocean Twp., NJ/Ocean Twp.) stopped two and three shots respectively.
The Profs started the game with seven straight goals and they were ahead 7-1 at the half. Lubrano and Hart each scored twice while Yee, Hershey and Morris had one goal apiece. Cannon had the Cougars’ goal with 35 seconds left in the period.
In the second half, Kelly tallied an unassisted goal (33:32) that made the score 7-2. Rowan went up 10-2 after goals by Hershey, Jones and Harrington. Bachovchin scored Kean’s final goal on a free position shot at 44:46. The Profs ended the game with three unanswered goals. Harrington had one with an assist from Lubrano, Morris scored on a free position shot and Hershey hit the net on a feed from Yee.
Next week, Rowan hosts FDU-Florham on Tuesday, April 16 at 6 p.m.
