YORK, PA – The York College (PA) baseball team shut out Rowan University, 9-0 in a nonconference game on Sunday.

The Spartans improve to 10-9, while the Profs have an 8-6 record. Right-hander Chris Frankenfield (sr. Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon) pitched seven scoreless innings for the win (2-1). He registered four strikeouts. Righty Jeff White (jr. Stratford, NJ/Sterling) allowed four earned runs in four innings for the loss (1-1).

York was led by designated hitter Dustin Worthman (so. Tabernacle, NJ/Seneca) with two hits (four at bats) and two runs scored. Left fielder Mike Connolly (sr. Selden, NJ/Newfield) went one for four with three RBIs, two runs scored and a home run. First baseman CT Stanley (jr. Timonium, MD/Calvert Hall College) had two hits (four at bats), two RBIs and a double. Third baseman Kyle Cook (jr. Pylesville, MD/North Harford) contributed with one hit (three at bats) and two runs scored. Pinch hitter Sean McCann (jr. Smithtown, NY/Smithtown) drove in one run, while second baseman Rick Shumway (sr. Shippensburg, PA/Shippensburg Area) and catcher Jim Meehan (sr. Mastic, NY/Eastport-South Manor Central) each scored once.

For Rowan, shortstop Marc Magliaro (so. Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.), second baseman Dave Lenig (sr. Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Mem.), left fielder Scott Weaver (jr. Ledgewood, NJ/Roxbury) and designated hitter Kevin O’Brien (jr. Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Mem.) were all one for four. Catcher Nick Turano (so. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) and right fielder Jordan Marsch (sr. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) both posted one hit in three trips to the plate.

York went up 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning. Cook singled and later scored on a throwing error. In the third, Connolly hit a two run homer to right field. The Spartans tacked on four runs in the fifth. Connolly was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Worthman. Stanley followed with a two run double to right center field. Connolly crossed the plate on a wild pitch.

The Spartans’ final two runs came in the bottom of the eighth inning. McCann singled to right field plating center fielder Matt Monti (sr. Easton, PA/Easton). Meehan came home when Cook grounded into a double play.

Rowan travels to Gwynedd-Mercy College on Tuesday, March 30 at 3:30 p.m.
