Rowan Outlasts Cabrini, 10-8

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s lacrosse team won 10-8 over Cabrini College on Tuesday night.

Attack Alayna Morris (sr. Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington Reg.) led the Profs with four goals and midfielder Alli Dickey (jr. Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) followed with three. Attack Lauren Yee (jr. Mendham, NJ/West Morris Mendham) scored one goal and assisted on two. Midfielder Trish Harrington (jr. Mahwah, NJ/Suffern (NY)) and attack Ellen Brigham (fr. Oakton, VA/Oakton) added one goal piece. Attack Tori Hart (sr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and midfielder Nicole Valianti (jr. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) each had an assist.

Rowan improves to 3-1 on the season while Cabrini has a 2-4 record. For the Cavaliers, attack Amanda Alexandrowicz (sr. Ridley, PA/Ridley) scored four goals. Attack Jamie O’Hanlon (jr. Springfield, PA/Springfield) totaled two goals and one assist. Attack Lynda Kaufmann (sr. Boothwyn, PA/Chichester) registered one goal and one assist while attack Kristen Vernon (jr. West Chester, PA/West Chester, PA) had one goal.

The Profs compiled 26 shots and the Cavaliers took 17. In the Rowan goal, Kerry Pehnke (so. West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro N.) made six saves. Cabrini goalie Kate Schmid (sr. Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert’s) stopped nine shots.

Rowan was ahead 5-3 after the first half. Cabrini got on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal by O’Hanlon. The Profs answered with three straight goals to lead 3-1 with 15:26 remaining. Dickey scored twice and Morris had one. Alexandrowicz found the net at 16:22. Brigham followed with an unassisted goal (22:13) which made the score 4-2. Morris scored a second time (26:06) on a feed from Hart. Alexandrowicz cut the deficit to two goals (5-3) with a free position goal with 2:45 left on the clock.

In the second half, Alexandrowicz’s third goal pulled the Cavaliers within one (5-4) at 31:25. Dickey scored unassisted (36:37) and Alexandrowicz came back with a goal (40:16) assisted by O’Hanlon. The Profs pulled away with three straight goals for a 9-5 advantage with 12:06 left. Morris had two goals and Harrington scored one. Alexandrowicz’s fourth goal came at 49:43. Yee recorded Rowan’s final goal at 51:08 with an assist from Valianti. Cabrini rallied for two more goals to end the game. Kaufmann scored on a free position (55:57) and she assisted on Vernon’s goal (58:37).

Next, Rowan hosts Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday, March 27 at 1 p.m.
