GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s lacrosse team defeated Washington College (MD), 15-8 on Monday night.
Attack Lauren Yee (jr. Mendham, NJ/West Morris Mendham) contributed with four goals and midfielder Trish Harrington (jr. Mahwah, NJ/Suffern (NY)) followed with three. Midfielder Alli Dickey (jr. Stevensville, NJ/Kent Island) and attacks Alayna Morris (sr. Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington Reg.) and Ellen Brigham (fr. Oakton, VA/Oakton) scored two goals apiece. Dickey also assisted on one goal. Attack Tori Hart (sr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) totaled four assists and one goal. Attack Caitlin Ravel (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) chipped in with one goal and midfielder Nicole Valianti (jr. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) had an assist.
The Profs improve to 2-1 on the season while the Shorewomen have a 2-2 record. For Washington, midfielder Sam Ohrem (jr. Ridgefield, NJ/Ridgefield) scored three goals and midfielder Mollie Shipley (fr. Denville, NJ/Morris Catholic) added two more. Attacks Liz Twilley (so. Salisbury, MD/Salisbury School) and Britton Preroff (sr. Baltimore, MD/Bryn Mawr) and midfielder Allie Hanzsche (sr. Catonsville, MD/Mount de Sales) all had one goal.
Rowan totaled 38 shots and Washington took 16. In the Profs’ goal, Kerry Pehnke (so. W. Windsor, NJ/W. Windsor-Plainsboro N.) and Lorraine Young (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) made three and two saves respectively. Goalie Amber Madore (jr. Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) stopped 16 shots for the Shorewomen.
The Profs jumped out to a 3-0 lead in 6:51. Yee and Harrington each scored a goal and Brigham hit the net on a free position shot. Ohrem put the Shorewomen on the scoreboard at 8:53. Rowan pulled away with seven straight goals for a 10-1 advantage at 23:30. Morris, Harrington and Yee each had two goals and Hart had one. Ohrem (23:54) and Preroff (24:13) both scored to trail 10-3. Dickey followed with two goals and Brigham had one to end the half. Rowan was ahead 13-3 at the break.
Washington started the second period with five unanswered goals to cut the deficit to five (13-8). Shipley contributed with two goals while Ohrem, Hanzsche and Twilley each had one. The Profs sealed the win with goals by Ravel (54:11) and Yee (59:37).
Rowan is home again on Tuesday, March 23 against Cabrini College at 6 p.m.
