GLASSBORO, NJ – The Franklin & Marshall College women’s lacrosse team defeated Rowan University, 14-4 in a nonconference game on Thursday evening.

The Diplomats, ranked number one in this week’s Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Poll, improve to 3-0. The Profs have a 1-1 record.

Attack Meredith Lussier (jr. Radnor, PA/Radnor) led the way with five goals. Attack Blake Hargest (sr. Cockeysville, MD/St. Paul’s School for Girls) added three goals and two assists. Attack Sarah Veneski (sr. Scranton, PA/Wyoming Seminary) tallied two goals and two assists, while midfielder Cat Serpe (so. Essex Falls, NJ/West Essex) registered two goals and one assist. Attack Erin Dunne (so. N. Brunswick, NJ/N. Brunswick Twp.) compiled one goal and one assist and midfielder Margaret Shields (fr. Bryn Mawr, PA/Baldwin School) found the net once.

For Rowan, midfielder Alli Dickey (jr. Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) recorded two goals. Attack Lauren Yee (jr. Mendham, NJ/West Morris Mendham) had one goal and one assist, while midfielder Michelle Lubrano (so. Delanco, NJ/Holy Cross) scored once.

The Diplomats took 27 shots and the Profs had 14. Franklin & Marshall goalie Lidia Sanza (sr. Cockeysville, MD/St. Paul’s School for Girls) made seven saves. Rowan goalie Kerry Pehnke (so. W. Windsor, NJ/W. Windsor-Plainsboro N.) turned away six shot in 42:26. Goalie Lorraine Young (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) stopped two shots in 17:34.

Hargest scored on a pass from Veneski 38 seconds into the first period to put Franklin & Marshall ahead, 1-0. Just under a minute later, Dickey found the net on a feed from Yee. Veneski connected with Hargest again at 2:15. Rowan answered with an unassisted goal by Dickey at 5:36 to tie the game (2-2). Franklin & Marshall tallied three straight goals by Serpe (8:48), Veneski (13:08) and Lussier (13:38) to take a 5-2 lead. Yee cut the deficit to two (5-3) with an unassisted goal at 16:01. The Diplomats closed out the half with four straight goals. Lussier registered two goals, while Dunne and Shields each had one. Franklin & Marshall had a 9-3 advantage at the intermission.

In the second period, the Diplomats had five consecutive goals in 8:29 to stretch the lead to 11 (14-3). Lussier found the net twice and Serpe, Veneski and Hargest had one goal apiece. Lubrano posted an unassisted goal with 5:29 left to play to end the scoring.

Rowan hosts Washington College (MD) on Saturday, March 13 at 1 p.m.
