Women's Basketball Wins 69-49 Over Valley Forge Christian

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s basketball team won 69-49 over Valley Forge Christian College in a nonconference game on Thursday night.

The Profs improve to 3-3 on the season while the Patriots drop to 3-6 overall. Forward Brittany Baum (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp., NJ) recorded season-highs of 17 points and nine rebounds. Guard Gina Cantanzariti (sr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) contributed with 15 points while forward Lauren Creel (jr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) added 11. Guard Christine Gannon (fr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) dished seven assists. 

For Valley Forge Christian, guard Amanda Reich scored 11 points and guard/forward Shawneal McKeither followed with 10. Reich also pulled down six rebounds. Forward Amanda Compton and guard Morgan Godwin each registered eight points. Compton grabbed a team-high seven boards.

The Profs started the game with a 12-5 run in the first 6:29 of the game. Five different players contributed with at least one basket. Guard/forward Charla Benton hit a three at 12:44 and the Patriots trailed 12-8. Rowan answered with 13 straight points for a 17 point advantage (25-8) with 7:34 remaining. Baum made nine of the 13 points. Compton’s layup at 4:42 cut the deficit to 11 points (29-18). The Profs were ahead 37-22 at the intermission. Baum and Catanzariti each totaled 11 points in the first period.

In the second half, Baum hit a jumper that made the score 47-29 at 12:40. Catanzariti’s basket at 8:18 put the Profs ahead by 22 points (55-33). The closest Valley Forge Christian came for the remainder of the game was 14 points (55-41) after a three by Benton with 6:43 left. With 4:56 on the clock, Rowan was up 59-43. The Profs scored six straight points to stretch the lead to 22 points (65-43) at 2:53. The Patriots then closed the game with a 6-4 run for the final score.

Rowan starts its conference schedule at Ramapo College on Saturday, December 4 at 1 p.m.
