GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University field hockey team upset number one ranked Salisbury University, 1-0 on Wednesday night.
Forward Julie Cairone (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) scored the winning goal on a penalty stroke at 54:12. It was her sixth goal on the season.
The Profs are 8-4 overall and ranked 14th among the top 20 teams. The Sea Gulls, the defending national champion, are 8-2 overall.
Salisbury totaled 12 shots and Rowan took seven. Goalie Jen Goldberg (so. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) made eight stops for first shutout. For the Sea Gulls, goalie Anna Cooke (jr. Ann Arbor, MI/Ann Arbor Pioneer) had one save and back Ashley Kisner (sr. Duncannon, PA/Susquenita) recorded a defender save.
Rowan travels to Kean University on Saturday, October 9 for a 1 p.m. conference game.
