SAN ANTONIO, TX – The Trinity University (TX) men’s soccer team won 4-0 over visiting Rowan University on Saturday night.
Four different players each scored a goal for the Tigers. Forwards Joseph DeCosta, Ben Grossman and Peter Philpott and midfielder Ben Grossman each hit the net one time. Grossman also had one assist along with midfielders Chesley Farmer, Josh Adams and Andrew Soares.
Trinity, ranked 11th in the nation, has a seven game win streak and a 7-1 overall record. Rowan is 5-3-1 on the season. On Friday, Rowan had a 1-0 shutout over Southwestern University which was the first game of the trip to San Antonio, TX.
The Tigers were ahead 1-0 after the first half. DeCosta started the scoring at 23:33 with an assist from Grossman. Barros had the second goal (48:49) and Farmer picked up the assist. Grossman scored at 69:44 and Adams had an assist. The final goal was by Philpott and Soares assisted.
Trinity totaled 24 shots and Rowan took seven. Goalie Patrick Johnson was in the Tigers’ net for the first 75 minutes and Jacob Truitt made one save in the final 15 minutes. The Profs’ goaltending duties were shared by Charlie Cunliffe (jr. Lakewood, NJ/Lakewood), Michael Fanz-Huster (fr. Waterford, NJ/Hammonton) and Kevin Owens (so. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro). Cunliffe started the game and turned away six shots in 59 minutes. Fanz-Huster stopped two shots (15 minutes) and Owens had one save (16 minutes).
Rowan returns to its conference schedule at home on Thursday, October 1 against Richard Stockton College at 7 p.m.
