No. 4 Messiah Defeats Rowan, 3-0

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Messiah College field hockey team had a 3-0 victory over Rowan University on Saturday afternoon.

Messiah, ranked fourth in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll, improves to 4-0. Rowan has a 2-2 record and is ranked 10th.

At 12:55 in the first period, Falcons’ forward Kourtney Ehly (jr. Boiling Springs, PA/Boiling Springs) found the back of the cage. Forward Katie Love (sr. Hockessin, DE/Wilmington Christian) picked up the assist. At 36:40 in the second half, midfielder Julie Barton (jr. Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) knocked in a pass from midfielder Lauren Tennis (jr. Lititz, PA/Warwick) to put Messiah ahead 2-0. One minute and 19 seconds later, Love scored on a feed from forward Jenna Max (sr. Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown).

Messiah took 20 shots, while Rowan had 12. Falcons’ goalie Ashley Mowery (sr. Mechanicsburg, PA/Northern) made six saves. Goalie Lisa Apt (so. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) stopped four shots in the Profs’ cage.

Rowan travels to William Paterson University for its conference opener on Saturday, September 19 at 1 p.m.
