Rowan Opens Season With 4-0 Win at Cabrini College

RADNOR, PA – The Rowan University field hockey team opened the season with a 4-0 win at Cabrini College on Tuesday. All four goals were scored by forward Lauren Ross.

In the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Coaches’ Preseason Poll, the Profs are ranked 10th in the nation. The Cavaliers are 0-1 on the season.

Forward Nicole Valianti (jr. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) contributed with two assists. Midfielders Jenna Lombardo (sr. Barnegat, NJ/Southern Reg.) and Ashley Adams (so. Erial, NJ/Timber Creek) each had one assist.

Rowan compiled 46 shots while Cabrini took 11. Goalie Lisa Apt (so. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) made five saves for the shutout. For Cabrini, goalie Caitlin Donahue (jr. Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) recorded 26 saves.

Ross (jr. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester) started the scoring at 1:27 with a shot in front of the cage on a pass from Valianti. The second goal came at 16:20 with an assist from Valianti. About a minute later, Lombardo assisted on the third goal when Ross scored in front of the Cabrini net. Ross tipped in a shot by Adams for the final goal at 51:21.

Next, Rowan hosts Haverford College in the home opener on Saturday, September 5 at 1 p.m.
