Stevens Wins 14-8 Over Rowan

HOBOKEN, NJ – The Stevens Institute of Technology women’s lacrosse team won 14-8 over visiting Rowan University on Wednesday night. The 11th ranked Ducks are undefeated with an 11-0 record.

Midfielder Christine Smith led Stevens with five goals. Midfielder Karen Federico and attack Alyssa Pigott each contributed with three goals. Attack/midfielder Leah Wasserman added two goals and two assists. Midfielder Pamela Loria scored once while midfielder Kara Borzillo had one assist.

For Rowan (5-5), attack Alli Dickey (so. Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) totaled three goals and midfielder Trish Harrington (so. Mahwah, NJ/Suffern (NY)) followed with two. Midfielders Kelly Angstadt (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) and Ali Goodman (so. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and attack Tori Hart (jr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) all hit the net one time. Midfielder Michelle Lubrano (fr. Delanco, NJ/Holy Cross), Harrington and Angstadt had one assist apiece.

Stevens compiled 37 shots and Rowan took 19. In the Ducks’ goal, Grace Sack made eight saves. For the Profs, goalie Alicia Mannino (sr. Richboro, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic) stopped 18 shots.

The Ducks went up 3-0 in the first 9:34 of the game. Federico started the scoring with a goal assisted by Wasserman. Smith and Loria followed, each with an unassisted goal. Harrington put the Profs on the scoreboard at 11:58 with a free position goal. Stevens added two more goals to lead 5-1. Federico and Wasserman each had one goal. Angstadt’s free position goal at 17:44 made the score 5-2. The teams exchanged goals two more times with Smith having both for Stevens and Dickey scoring twice for the Profs. Federico found the net with 1:47 remaining in the period and Smith had a free position goal 38 seconds later. Hart scored on a free position and Rowan trailed 9-5 at the intermission.

Stevens started the second half with two straight goals. Wasserman had the first one and Pigott made the second. Goodman scored on a pass from Angstadt. Pigott put the Ducks ahead 12-6 with a goal assisted by Wasserman. Dickey cut the deficit to five (12-7) with an unassisted goal at 47:43. The Ducks had goals by Pigott and Smith to lead 14-7 with 5:30 left. Harrington recorded the last goal of the game at the 28 second mark with an assist from Lubrano.

Rowan travels to Montclair State University on Saturday, April 11 for a 1 p.m. conference game.
