CAMDEN, NJ – Right fielder John McMullin recorded three RBIs for the Rowan University baseball team in a 7-4 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) win at Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday.
McMullin (sr. Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) went four for five with one run scored. Catcher Tim Barnshaw (sr. Dayton, NJ/South Brunswick) contributed with two hits (four at bats), two runs scored and a double. Shortstop Marc Magliaro (fr. Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) added two hits in two trips to the plate and one RBI. Second baseman Pete Delleani (jr. Manalapan, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) had two hits (four at bats), one RBI, one run scored and a double.
Right-hander Robert Rose (sr. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) was the winning pitcher in relief. Rose (3-0) pitched 3.1 innings and had three strikeouts. Righty Todd Burdette (so. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) was on the mound for the last inning and earned his eighth save on the season. Right-hander Cory Downham (jr. Pitman, NJ/Pitman) took the loss.
For the Scarlet Raptors (7-16, NJAC 2-5), catcher Greg Hunt (jr. Marlton, NJ/St. Joseph (Hammonton)) was one for five with one RBI, one run scored and a double. Right fielder Steve Myers (jr. Millville, NJ/Millville) and second baseman Dean Straga (sr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) each had one hit and one run scored.
Rutgers-Camden had a 1-0 lead after the first inning. Myers reached base with a walk and advanced to third on left fielder Tom Clarke’s (so. Brick, NJ/Brick Mem.) single. He came home on a wild pitch. Rowan went ahead 4-1 in the third inning. Magliaro drove in Barnshaw with a single. Delleani singled in the second run and McMullin registered a two RBI single.
Both teams scored one run in the fourth. Barnshaw crossed the plate on a fielder’s choice. Straga doubled and later went home on a passed ball. The Scarlet Raptors trailed 5-4 after two runs in the fifth. Hunt had a RBI double for the first run and he scored on an error.
The Profs had their last two runs in the top of the seventh. McMullin plated Delleani with a single to right field. Delleani had gotten on base with a double. Marsch’s single to left field sent home McMullin.
Rowan (15-8-1, NJAC 4-4) travels to Ramapo College on Thursday, April 9 for a 3:30 p.m. conference game.
