GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team had an 11-4 victory over Elizabethtown College on Tuesday night.
The Profs improve to 14-8-1, while the Blue Jays are 16-9. Right-hander Tony Cavalier (so. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) earned the win on the mound. Cavalier (1-2) allowed four hits and two runs, one earned, in seven innings. He recorded seven strikeouts. Left-hander Todd Leister (fr. Stanhope, NJ/Lenape Valley) took the loss for Elizabethtown. Leister (0-2) gave up four runs, two earned in four innings.
First baseman Tom Ready (sr. Blackwood, NJ/Triton Reg.) led Rowan with two hits (two at bats), three RBIs and two runs scored. Shortstop Marc Magliaro (fr. Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) added two hits (three at bats) and two runs scored. Second baseman Pete Delleani (jr. Manalapan, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) registered one hit (four at bats), two RBIs, one run scored and a double. Catcher Tom Reindel (sr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) scored twice and right fielder John McMullin (sr. Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) drove in two runs.
For Elizabethtown, catcher Tom Samanek (sr. Swoyersville, PA/Bishop Hoban) was one for two with two runs scored and one RBI. Left fielder Adam Sheibley (sr. Landisburg, PA/West Perry) contributed with two hits (five at bats) and one run scored. Center fielder Rodney Francis (jr. Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) scored one run and designated hitter Tim Rosser (fr. Wilmington, DE/Salesianum) had one RBI.
The Blue Jays went ahead 2-0 with one run in the second and third innings. Rosser singled in Semanek in the second and Francis scored on Semanek’s single in the third. In the bottom of the third, Rowan recorded four runs to go up 4-2. Delleani ripped a double down the left field line plating Reindel and Magliaro. Ready came home on a wild pitch and Delleani came in on a ground out by McMullin.
The Profs tacked on three runs in the fifth inning and two in the sixth to increase the lead to seven (9-2). Ready singled and Reindel scored in the fifth. Third baseman David Lenig (jr. Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville) crossed the plate on a wild pitch and McMullin drove in Ready with a single. In the sixth, Ready singled up the middle bringing home pinch runner/designated hitter Scott Weaver (so. Ledgewood, NJ/Roxbury) and Magliaro.
In the top of the eighth, Samanek crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly. In the bottom half, pinch hitter Bill Donovan (fr. Mantua, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) reached base with a double to left field. Catcher Nick Turano (fr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) hit a single to right center field that scored Donovan. Turano came home on a ground out. The Blue Jays added one run in the top of the ninth, but the Profs held on. Sheibley scored on a sacrifice fly.
