Rowan Defeats Richard Stockton, 10-6

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team had a 10-6 victory over Richard Stockton College in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Monday.

The Profs improve to 12-5-1 overall and 2-2 in the conference. The Ospreys have an 11-6 record with a 0-3 NJAC mark. Right-hander Jay Gallen (jr. Gibbsboro, NJ/Bishop Eustace) pitched seven innings, allowing five runs. Gallen (3-0) recorded seven strikeouts. Righty Jay Wilson (jr. Brick, NJ/Brick) took the loss in relief for the Ospreys. Wilson (0-2) tossed 0.2 innings and gave up three earned runs. Left hander Scott Fisher (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) started the game and struck out eight hitters in six innings.

Center fielder Garrett Mull (sr. Chatsworth, NJ/Lenape) led Rowan with five hits (five at bats), three RBIs, two runs scored and a double. Right fielder John McMullin (sr. Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) went three for five with three runs scored and one RBI. Left fielder Jordan Marsch (jr. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) posted two hits and scored twice. Catcher Tim Barnshaw (sr. Dayton, NJ/South Brunswick), third baseman Brad Woodend (so. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) and first baseman Tom Ready (sr. Blackwood, NJ/Triton Reg.) each scored once. Pinch hitter Scott Weaver (so. Ledgewood, NJ/Roxbury) and shortstop Marc Magliaro (fr. Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) registered two and one RBI respectively.

For Richard Stockton, Fisher was two for three with one RBI, one run scored and a home run. Shortstop Matt Allen (jr. Salem, NJ/Woodstown) contributed with three hits (five at bats), three runs scored and a double. Center fielder Nick DiGirolamo (so. Dumont, NJ/Dumont) added two hits (four at bats) and two RBIs. Left fielder Mike Wasco (fr. Riverside, NJ/Riverside) and catcher Shaune Collins (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) both tallied two hits and one run scored.

Both teams scored one run in the second inning. In the top half, Allen reached base with a single and later scored on a wild pitch. Mull doubled in McMullin to tie the game (1-1) in the bottom half.

The Ospreys went ahead 3-1 with two runs in the top of the fourth inning. Wasco crossed the plate on a double play with the bases loaded and Allen scored on DiGirolamo’s single. Rowan cut the deficit to one (3-2) when Marsch came home on an error in the bottom of the fourth.

In the top of the fifth inning, Fisher hit a solo homer that put the Ospreys up 4-2. Magliaro drove in Mull with a single in the bottom of the sixth to bring the Profs within one (4-3). Rowan tacked on four runs in the seventh to take a 7-4 lead. McMullin’s single plated Woodend. McMullin came home on a single by Mull and Weaver knocked in Mull and Marsch with a single to right field.

Richard Stockton fought back with two runs in the top of the eight to make the score (7-6). Allen scored on a fielder’s choice and Collins came in on an error. Rowan sealed the victory with three insurance runs in the bottom half. Barnshaw crossed the plate on a ground out by designated hitter Pete Delleani (jr. Manalapan, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy). McMullin struck out but reached first on a wild pitch and Ready scored. Mull followed with a RBI single up the middle that brought McMullin home.

Rowan hosts Gwynedd-Mercy College in a nonconference game on Tuesday, March 31 at 3:30 p.m.
