CHESTERTOWN, MD – The Washington College (MD) women’s lacrosse team defeated Rowan University, 12-10 on Wednesday night.
Washington improves to 5-2, while Rowan has a 2-4 record. The Shorewomen were led by attack Suzie Jakub (sr. University Park, MD/St. John’s College (DC)) with four goals. Midfielder Sam Ohrem (so. Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) followed with three goals and three assists. Midfielder Brittany Lambert (sr. Riva, MD/South River) posted three goals. Attack Sarah Cannon (so. Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame Prep) had one goal and one assist, while attack Rachel Bartee (fr. Mt. Airy, MD/South Carroll) found the net once. Midfielder Allie Hanzsche (jr. Catonsville, MD/Mount de Sales) compiled two assists.
Rowan attack Lauren Crennan (sr. Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) totaled three goals and one assist. Midfielder Kelly Angstadt (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) and attack Carly Welsh (sr. Allenwood, NJ/Wall) recorded two goals and one assist apiece. Attacks Alli Dickey (so. Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) and Tori Hart (jr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and midfielder Trish Harrington (so. Mahwah, NJ/Suffern (NY)) each scored one.
Rowan took 30 shots, while Washington had 19. Goalie Amber Madore (so. Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) made 13 saves for the Shorewomen. Profs’ goalie Kerry Pehnke (fr. West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro N.) made three saves in 28:36. Goalie Alicia Mannino (sr. Richboro, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic) was in the net for 31:24.
Rowan jumped out to a 3-0 lead with goals by Welsh (1:09), Hart (1:50) and Dickey (2:19). Washington recorded the next four goals to go ahead 4-3 at 7:05. Lambert and Jakub each found the net twice. Welsh’s third goal at 8:24 tied the game (4-4). Bartee (16:23) and Jakub (18:08) both scored to put the Shorewomen back ahead, 6-4. The Profs followed with goals by Angstadt (21:08) and Crennan (21:53). Ohrem’s goal at 22:05 made the scored 7-6. With 3:04 left in the half, Crennan had an unassisted goal that tied the game, 7-7 at the intermission.
Washington scored two consecutive goals to open the second period. Jakub (31:19) and Ohrem (32:09) had one goal apiece. Rowan answered with goals by Crennan (37:38) and Angstadt (39:36). Ohrem and Cannon found the net at 41:21 and 47:29 respectively to put the Shorewomen back up 11-9. Harrington cut the deficit to one (11-10) with an assist from Crennan at 52:32. Lambert’s third goal sealed the victory with 6:31 left on the clock.
