Rowan Falls to Third Ranked Franklin & Marshall, 15-4

LANCASTER, PA – Eleven different players scored for the Franklin & Marshall College women’s lacrosse team in a 15-4 win over visiting Rowan University on Tuesday.

F&M is undefeated with a 3-0 record and Rowan is 1-1 on the season. In the latest Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Association Poll, the Diplomats were ranked third in the nation while the Profs were 20th.

Midfielder Ashley Bevington led Franklin & Marshall with three goals and one assists. Attack Meredith Lussier and midfielder Shannon Summers each scored two goals. Summers also totaled three assists. Midfielders Lauren Ehrhardt, Cat Serpe, Katie Delaney, Sarah Grzybinski and Sarah Meisenberg along with attacks Jen Pritchard, Sarah Veneski and Laura Ruppersberger added one goal apiece.

For Rowan, midfielder Kelly Angstadt (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) scored two goals and assisted on one. Attacks Lauren Crennan (sr. Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) and Tori Hart (jr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) both had one goal.

F&M totaled 29 shots and Rowan took 16. For the Diplomats, goalie Lidia Sanza made four saves in the first half and Chelsea Meerbach had four stops in the second. The Profs’ goalie Alicia Mannino (sr. Richboro, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic) turned away seven shots in 38:21. Goalie Kerry Pehnke (fr. West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro N.) played 21:39 and stopped two shots.

Franklin & Marshall jumped out to a 9-1 lead after the first half. The Diplomats started the game with three straight goals. Ehrhardt had the first one and Lussier followed with two in a row. Crennan put Rowan on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal at 5:37. F&M then had six unanswered goals to end the period. Bevington contributed with three goals while Serpe, Pritchard and Summers each added one.

In the second half, the Diplomats were ahead 12-1 after goals by Delaney, Grzybinski and Summers. Hart scored the Profs’ second goal on a pass from Angstadt. Ruppersberger hit the net for the Diplomats’ 13th goal that was assisted by Veneski. Four minutes later, Angstadt had an unassisted goal for Rowan. Veneski made the score 14-3 with 8:50 remaining. Angstadt picked up her second score at the 4:01 mark. Meisenberg scored the last goal of the game on a free position shot.

Rowan hosts Goucher College in the home opener on Thursday, March 12 at 4:30 p.m.
