GLASSBORO, NJ – Forward Courtney Heesemann recorded 20 points and 14 rebounds to lead the College of Mount Saint Vincent to a 59-49 victory over Rowan University on Thursday night.

The Dolphins improve to 1-0, while the Profs have a 1-1 record. Heeseman (sr. New Hyde Park, NY/New Hyde Park) made six of 10 shots from the floor and eight of nine free throws. Guard Jen Mocanu (so. Middletown, NJ/Middletown N.) had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Lauren Percodani (sr. Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph by the Sea) totaled seven assists and four steals. Forward Kara McNish (so. Hawthorne, NJ/Hawthorne) posted eight points and nine boards.

For Rowan, forward Amanda Jennings (sr. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) compiled 16 points and six rebounds. Guard Danielle Rohe (sr. Dumont, NJ/Dumont) added seven points and a career-high eight boards. Forward Erin Farrell (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) scored seven points off the bench. Guard Gina Catanzariti (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and forward Michelle Lala (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) pulled down eight rebounds apiece.

Mount Saint Vincent was ahead 22-18 at halftime. In the second period, Mocanu’s layup at 17:48 extended the lead to 11 points (29-18). The score was 36-25 at 11:33. The Dolphins went on a 12-0 run to go up 48-25 with 7:34 remaining. McNish recorded four points in the surge, while Percodani made a three-pointer. Mocanu had a layup at the seven minute mark for a 23 point advantage (50-27). Rowan scored the next nine points to pull within 14 points (50-36) at 5:35. Guard Ashley Russo (fr. Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence) made a three-pointer, Farrell made four free throws and Rohe had two.

Mount Saint Vincent guard Jill Brady’s (sr. Rockaway Beach, NY/Bishop Kearney) jumper at 5:08 made the scored, 52-36. The Profs had an 11-0 surge to cut the deficit to five points (52-47) with 2:30 left to play. Guards Chanelle Banta (so. Bergenfield, NJ/Bergenfield) and Alli Bassetti (so. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) and Farrell each had three points, while Jennings had two. Heeseman scored on a layup (1:53) and the Dolphins made five of five foul shots down the stretch. Heeseman recorded 13 points in the second half and Mocanu had 10. Jennings scored 10 points for Rowan.

In the first period, the Profs jumped out to a 14-5 lead over the first 10:01. Jennings posted six of the 14 points. Mount Saint Vincent went on a 10-0 run to go ahead by one (15-14) at 3:02. Heeseman led the way with four points. With 1:42 remaining, Heeseman made a free throw to tie the game at 18. Mocanu added a foul shot (1:37) and a three-pointer (00:27) to make the score 22-18 at the intermission.
