GLASSBORO, NJ – Quarterback Frank Wilczynski accounted for 378 yards of total offense and five touchdowns to lead Rowan University to a 39-0 victory over The College of New Jersey in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday.
The Profs end the season with a 7-3 overall record and a 6-3 NJAC mark. The Lions finished 4-6 overall and 3-6 in the conference. Rowan out gained TCNJ, 541 yards to 52.
Wilczynski (sr. Pine Hill, NJ/Overbrook) completed 19 of 28 passes for 238 yards and two touchdowns. He rushed for 140 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries. Superback Jon Downes (sr. Gibbsboro, NJ/Valley Forge Military (PA)) ran for 126 yards on 21 attempts. Wide receiver Anthony Barone (so. Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) made four catches for 101 yards. Wideout Vinnie Graff (sr. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) added six grabs for 55 yards and one touchdown. Tight end Kevin DelleDonne (so. Summit, NJ/Summit) hauled in two passes for 21 yards and one touchdown. He also blocked a punt.
The defense held TCNJ to 66 yards passing and -14 yards rushing. Linebacker Andrew Yezzi (sr. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) led the way with 12 tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss (-29 yards), 2.5 sacks (-24 yards), one interception and one forced fumble. Linebacker Jerome Gordon (jr. Browns Mills, NJ/Pemberton Twp.) compiled seven stops and 2.5 tackles for a loss (-10 yards). Cornerback Malcolm Dock (sr. Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg), nose guard Steve Williams (fr. Westmont, NJ/Haddon Twp.) and linebacker Moe Ghotok (so. Hawthorne, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan) each made five tackles.
For the Lions, quarterback James Donoghue (so. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) threw for 66 yards with three completions in 13 attempts. Running back Bill Picatagi (sr. Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton W.) made two catches for 20 yards, while wideout Cameron Richardson (sr. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) added one grab for 46 yards. Running back Kevin Brown (fr. Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) carried the ball seven times for 27 yards.
Linebacker Gregory Burns (fr. Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton W.) posted 12 tackles. Safeties Shawn Brown (so. Long Branch, NJ/Long Branch) and Matthew Kreider (jr. Delran, NJ/Delran) each registered 11 stops. Cornerback Dean Misiura (jr. Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) had nine tackles and blocked an extra point. Linebacker Kevin Allgood (so. Chatham, NJ/Chatham) recovered a fumble.
Rowan went ahead 7-0 at 8:31 in the first quarter on a 22 yard touchdown pass from Wilczynski to Graff. The Profs started on the Lions’ 42 yard line. After two short rushes by Leafey, Graff had an 18 yard reception. On Rowan’s next drive, Wilczynski scored with a 10 yard touchdown run (5:04). The Profs got possession on their own five yard line. Barone hauled in a 22 yard pass and Downes broke free for a 62 yard run.
In the second, Wilczynski’s 19 yard touchdown carry at 5:30 put Rowan up 21-0. Wilczynski completed four of four pass attempts for 31 yards in the drive. DelleDonne blocked a punt on TCNJ’s next possession and wide receiver TJ Pratt (fr. Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) recovered it on the Lions’ 16 yard line. On the first play from scrimmage, Wilczynski threw a 16 yard touchdown pass to DelleDonne to give the Profs a 28-0 halftime advantage.
At 3:15 in the third period, Wilczynski found the end zone on a two yard rush. The extra point attempt was blocked by Misiura. Downes totaled 12 rushing yards and Wilczynski had 23 yards on the ground in the drive. The Profs recorded a safety at 8:12 in the fourth. TCNJ had a high snap that went into the end zone. With 3:41 remaining, kicker Mark Getsinger (sr. Deptford, NJ/Deptford) made a 33 yard field goal. Downes carried the ball seven times for 63 yards in the drive.
