GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University field hockey team defeated Richard Stockton College, 5-1 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) contest on Tuesday night. The Profs clinched the conference title with the victory and they receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.

It is Rowan’s sixth conference championship (2005, 2003, 2002, 2000, 1998). The Profs, ranked ninth in the nation, are 12-4 overall and 5-0 in the NJAC. The Ospreys have a 3-14 record with a 0-5 conference mark.

Forward Lauren Ross (jr. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester) scored two goals. Midfielder Janna Tighe (jr. Sewell, NJ/Gateway Reg.) contributed with one goal and two assists. Midfielder Julie Cairone (so. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) and back Sam Williams (jr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) each scored once and midfielder Ashley Adams (so. Erial, NJ/Timber Creek) added an assist.

Rowan compiled 46 shots while Stockton took three. Goalie Lisa Apt (so. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) played the first half in the Profs’ cage and goalie Jen Goldberg (fr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) had two saves in the second. For Stockton, goalie Debi O’Kane (jr. Cologne, NJ/Absegami) turned away 17 shots.

Williams put Rowan on the scoreboard at 10:10 with an assist from Tighe. Cairone scored 20 second later and Tighe recorded her second assist. Ross made the score 3-0 (15:34) with an unassisted goal. Tighe hit the cage at 17:28. In the second period, Ross picked up her second goal (40:20) on a pass from Adams. Back Elizabeth Quinn (sr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Holy Cross) had the lone goal for Stockton at 45:25. 

Rowan plays Lynchburg College on Saturday, October 31 at 1 p.m. It is the Profs’ last home game of the regular season.
