Elaina Corson scored four goals, including the 200th of her career, but #17 Rowan was edged by Muhlenberg, 13-11, in the Profs' women's lacrosse home opener. Rowan is now 1-1 on the year.
Corson scored Rowan's ninth goal at 5:52 of the third quarter, which was the 200th of her career. She becomes just the second Prof to reach 200 goals, as all-time leader Becca Woods scored 250 from 2012-15.
Corson scored twice at the end of the third quarter to cut Rowan's deficit to 11-10. Muhlenberg (3-0) scored first in the fourth quarter to go up, 12-10, and Lowry netted one at 4:33 to pull the Profs within, 12-11. Muhlenberg's Alyssan Hartnett netted one with 2:55 to play put the game out of reach.
Yasmin Harris added three goals for the Profs with
Madison Rothwein and
Alexis Lowry scoring two times each.
Muhlenberg scored the first two of the third quarter to take a 10-7 lead. Rowan kept within striking distance, as Rothwein scored at 7:05, but the Mules again added another to maintain an 11-8 lead.
In the second quarter, Harris rallied the Profs to within one goal as she scored three times. Corson opened the scoring in the quarter and with the Mules leading 6-4, Harris scored back-to-back goals to tie the game. Muhlenberg quickly broke the tie with a pair of goals before Harris scored her third of the quarter and the visitors led, 8-7, at halftime.
Lowry opened the scoring on the Profs' first possession, but Muhlenberg scored four consecutive goals to stake a 4-1 lead. Corson got one back with an unassisted goal at 10:42 and after another goal by Muhlenberg, Rothwein pulled Rowan within, 5-3.
Rowan held a 34-24 advantage in shots, with the Mules' goalie Meaghan Haughney coming up with 16 saves, and the Profs' Kyle Durboraw making six.
The Profs are home again on Wednesday when they host Ursinus at 4 p.m.
