Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Holds Off Montclair State, 62-53; Carlies Records Double Double in Win

GLASSBORO, NJ - - Rowan took a lead one minute into the game and never relinquished it, knocking off New Jersey Athletic Conference foe Montclair State by a final score of 62-53 in Esbjornson Gym Wednesday evening.

Charlotte Carlies recorded a double-double, pacing all Rowan scores with 13 points while pulling down 10 rebounds. Jess McLaughlin also reached double-figures in scoring with 10 points to go along with five assists while Megan Donelson contributed seven points and five rebounds.

After Carlies' bucket gave the Profs an early 4-2 lead in the first quarter, it would turn out to be the only lead change of the game. The Rowan advantage swelled to 13 points, their largest lead of the quarter after a Haley Selmer layup made the score 21-8.

Montclair State built some momentum in the second quarter, going on a 10-4 run to cut the lead to six halfway through the period. Rowan would finish the quarter strong, outscoring the Red Hawks 4-1 over the final two minutes and taking a 38-29 edge into halftime.

Both defenses turned it on in the third quarter as only 17 combined points were scored by both teams. Rowan won the quarter by one and took a 10 point lead into the final frame. A three-point make by McLaughlin at the start of the fourth stretched Rowan's lead to 13 but was quickly answered by a 7-0 Montclair State spurt. The Profs responded with a game-defining answer, going on an 8-0 run to give themselves a 61-47 lead with 3:08 to go in the game. From there, Rowan kept the Red Hawks at arm's length to secure the conference victory.

The Red Hawks' Alyssa Craigwell had 24 points on 10-of-22 shooting from the field to lead all scorers on the night.

Up next, the Profs will travel to Jersey City this Saturday for a tilt with the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
