JERSEY CITY, NJ –
Haley Selmer and
Abigail Jazmin led three other players in double-digit scoring as Rowan fought past New Jersey City in overtime, 81-69, Saturday afternoon in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game.
Selmer (16 points) and Jazmin (14 points) were joined by
Charlotte Carlies (11),
Jess McLaughlin (10), and
Jes Mastriano (10) in hitting double figures as the Profs (11-7, 7-4 NJAC) pick up its third win in a row.
Emily Poulas hit three of the team's six three-pointers in the second half alone to finish with nine points while the team outscored NJCU, 18-6, in the extra session.
Carlies added seven rebounds and notched 100th career block in the victory, finishing with four in the game.
For New Jersey City, Meghan Gentile scored a game-high 25 points with teammate Na'tori Postell adding in 20.
In a very close contest, the game featured 20 lead changes and 17 ties while neither team led by more than four points in regulation.
Selmer had seven points in the first quarter to get Rowan out to a 17-14 lead. Gentile and Isabel Gidado combined for 10 points in the second to pull the home team back ahead at the half, 30-27.
Down 47-46 heading into the fourth, a three from Poulas and a bucket from Selmer opened the quarter to reclaim an early lead.
Two free throws from Mastriano with 34 seconds to put Rowan on top by one, 63-62. The Gothic Knights (6-9, 4-7 NJAC) had a chance to take the lead on its next possession, however, could only hit one of two attempts at the free-throw line. A last second attempt from Jasmin did not fall as the teams were knotted at 63-63 after four quarters of play.
Rowan took advantage of NJCU eight fouls and four turnovers in overtime to go 12-of-14 from the line to help pull away for good in the road win.
Next up for the Profs is a matchup at home against Rutgers-Camden this Wednesday in a 7:30 p.m. start.
