Cantey Nets 1,000th Career Point, but Men's Basketball Defeated by #8 Montclair State, 99-87

GLASSBORO, NJ – Taz Cantey netted his 1,000th collegiate point but it was #8 Montclair State leaving Esbjornson Gymnasium with a 99-87 decision over Rowan Wednesday night in a New Jersey Athletic Conference clash.

Cantey, who needed 18 points entering the contest to hit the milestone, connected on a bucket in the paint with 8:33 remaining in the contest. The senior led the Profs with 25 points. Brycen Williams added 18 (12 second-half points) while Khalil Baker kicked in 17 points and 11 rebounds. The double-double was Baker's fourth this season and second in a row.

Montclair State's Kabrien Goss went 7-for-7 from downtown to finish with a game-high 27 points. Goss had 16 in the first half to help the visitors to a 15-point lead at the half (52-37).

Rowan (4-13, 4-6 NJAC) looked to keep pace in the second stanza, but Goss and teammate Jacob Morales connected on back-to-back triples to give the Red Hawks its largest lead of the contest, 80-59, with 10:19 to play.

Williams scored six points of a 12-0 Rowan run to pull the home squad to nine (82-73) with six minutes to play, and later with 4:16 in the contest (86-77). Goss added two more three-pointers over the next three possessions to help restore a double-digit lead the rest of the way.

Goss, Morales (17 points), and teammates Myles Primas (12 points) and Ryan Castles (11 points) all hit double figures for Montclair State (17-0, 10-0 NJAC).

Cantey spent his first two seasons at Division II Holy Family where he amassed 428 points in 44 games.

The Profs hit the road to take on New Jersey City this Saturday in a 3 p.m. tip.
