ASTON, PA -- Rowan won 3-1 at Neumann (27-29, 25-12, 25-14, 25-11) Friday night in the first day of the Knights Invitational.
The Profs rattled off three-straight wins after falling in a wild first set that saw 11 ties and five late lead changes.
Jessica Smart put down seven of her game-high 16 kills in a decisive fourth set that saw Rowan get out to a sizable margin to help lock up the victory. A pair of career highs were hit as
Abby Chadwick registered 11 kills and
Jena Kaul collected 18 digs respectively. Kaul was one kill shy of a double double (nine).
Rowan fell behind as much as 23-18 but rallied to knot things up at 24-24 after a kill from Kaul. The host Knight however used three points in a row to take a 1-0 lead.
Chadwick recorded five kills in the second set that saw the squad hit .364 (15-3-33) while in the third, the team ran off a 12-1 run to break a 13-13 tie to take a 2-1 edge. In the fourth set, the Smart helped the Profs to run out to a 22-6 lead and eventually help lock up the win.
Kaul,
Vanessa Hutchinson (24), and
Gabriella Cooper (10) all reached double-digit digs. Rookie
Raven Albrecht dealt out 45 assists on the evening.
Play continues tomorrow as the Profs battle Cedar Crest at noon followed up a 2 p.m. matchup with Ursinus.
