Women's Lacrosse Upsets #4 Franklin & Marshall, 11-10, as Green Scores with 30 Seconds Remaining

GLASSBORO, NJ – Molly Green's goal with :30 to play lifted Rowan to an 11-10 upset of #4 Franklin & Marshall in women's lacrosse action today. It is the Profs' second win over a ranked team this season and marks the first victory over a Top 10 team since 2010, when they defeated TCNJ. Rowan is now 10-1 after winning its first eight games for the best start in school history.

Green had two goals in the game, and eight draw controls, while Elaina Corson netted four goals. Calista Burke and Alexis Lowry each scored twice, with Fiona Lockhart scoring one goal. Mel Rodgers was stellar in goal for the Profs, making 13 saves while Rowan held a slim 24-23 edge in shots.

The teams were even throughout the 60 minutes of play, with the game tied seven times, and the biggest margin being two goals.

The Profs took a 10-8 lead, after goals by Burke and Lowry, the latter coming with 11:32 to play. The teams were scoreless for the next five minutes until Franklin & Marshall got within 10-9, on a goal at 6:29 and then tied the game with 2:59 remaining.

Franklin & Marshall (10-2) controlled the draw but Mel Rodgers made a game-saving stop on a free-position shot with 1:43 remaining and were in possession after the clear attempt. Working the clock for the final shot, Green was fouled and awarded a free position shot, which she connected on for the biggest goal of her career to date.

Green had the game's opening goal to her credit, as well as the last, when she teamed up with Corson. Lowry followed with one as the Profs held a 2-1 lead after one quarter.
F&M scored two straight to open the second quarter before Rowan answered with scores from Lockhart and Corson to own a brief 4-3 lead before the Diplomats tied it before halftime.

The teams traded goals throughout the third quarter with Franklin & Marshall scoring the last one to force a 7-7 tie heading into the fourth.

Rowan returns to NJAC play on Saturday when it visits Stockton for a noon game.
