GLASSBORO, NJ -- Rowan had its four-game win streak snapped as the Profs fell to TCNJ, 69-53, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game at Esbjornson Gymnasium on Wednesday night.
The Profs got within two midway through the third quarter and later looked to erase a double-digit deficit in the fourth, but could get no closer than nine (50-41) with 2:53 remaining in the NJAC contest.
Kate Herlihy had 18 points and
Shayla Johnson kicked in 14 points (tying a career high) while adding a game-best nine rebounds for the Profs (15-8, 11-5 NJAC).
Sabrina Araujo hit three of the team's five three-pointers to finish with nine points.
The Lions' Grace Kowalski scored 15 of her game-high 20 points in the second half. Arianna McCleod (16 points), Nina Branchizio (14 points), and Katie Fricker (10 points) all reached double figures.
TCNJ (18-5, 14-2 NJAC) connected on six first-quarter triples to get out to a 22-12 lead with Branchizio hitting three of her four from behind the arc on the night.
Trailing 36-24 at the half, the Profs opened the third on a 14-4 run as Johnson's three-point play followed by a Herlihy jumper just inside the three-point line made it a two-point game (40-38). The Lions countered with 7-0 spurt to close the stanza and lead by nine heading into the final frame.
The Profs rallied after being down as much as 15 in the fourth, to get it to 60-51 after Herlihy's layup with 2:53 in the contest. TCNJ Lions hit 9-of-12 from the free-throw line down the stretch to help salt the outcome.
Rowan welcomes Rutgers-Newark on Saturday on Senior Day here at home in a 1 p.m. start.
