Herlihy, Araujo and Johnson Pace Women's Basketball Over Rutgers-Newark, 90-58, on Senior Day

GLASSBORO, NJ - Senior Kate Herlihy scored 20 points and classmates Sabrina Araujo and Kristina Johnson had 16 and 10, respectively, as Rowan rolled to a 90-58 win over Rutgers-Newark on "Senior Day" in NJAC women's basketball action.

Rowan (16-8; 12-5) honored those three players as well as Shayla Johnson, Kelli Kuenzel and Reagan Russo, prior to their final home regular-season game.

Herlihy tallied 20 in 28 minutes and handed out five assists while Araujo made five three-pointers in the win. Johnson shot 4-of-8 from the field and added six rebounds and five assists and Shayla Johnsoon scored nine points.

Rowan had a comfortable lead in the third quarter, 51-38, but scored 15 consecutive points to break it open even more. Herlihy and Mandy Selmer scored six points each in the spurt that gave the Profs a commanding 66-38 lead.

Kuenzel's three-pointer at the start of the fourth quarter pushed Rowan's margin to 30, 71-41, while the Profs took their biggest lead of the game, 90-56, in the final minute.
The Profs were cold at the start, making just 6-of-20 from the field, but still held a 22-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Rowan heated up in the second, hitting 8-of-17 field goals, while holding the Scarlet Raiders to a 3-for-20 effort. Back-to-back threes by Herlihy and Sabrina Araujo gave the Profs a 32-17 lead. Rutgers-Newark (3-21; 0-17) scored seven straight to pull within 32-24, but Herlihy answered with another three-pointer to increase the lead to 35-24 at 4:32. Despite Rutgers-Newark scoring the final five points of the half, the Profs went into intermission with a 42-30 advantage.

The Profs close out the regular season at Stockton on Wednesday, February 19th at 5:30 p.m. with the NJAC Championship set to begin with the quarterfinals on February 22nd.
