MONTCLAIR, NJ -- Rowan fell in its NJAC opener at Montclair State, 64-57, Tuesday evening.
Jess McLaughlin and
Abigail Jazmin each had nine points to lead the Profs.
Charlotte Carlies and
Natalia Barrera pulled down eight rebounds apiece.
Alyssa Craigwell led the Red Hawks, who shot over 70% in the fourth quarter, with a game-high 20 points. Teammate Alexis Strollo added 19 points.
After Rowan ran out to 15-5 lead after the first quarter. McLaughlin's three made it 24-11 with 3:09 left in the second. Montclair cut into the lead, making it 26-18 at the half.
Jazmin's three-point play with 2:41 in the third put the Profs back up in double figures, 39-29. Craigwell scored five points in an 8-0 MSU run to close out the stanza, but the visitors still led 43-37.
Craigwell and Strollo each netted nine points apiece in the final quarter as Montclair went 10-of-14 including a three from Celina Bussanich at the 4:49 mark to put the Red Hawks ahead.
The Profs return to action next Wednesday at Rutgers-Camden in NJAC action beginning at 6 p.m.
