GLASSBORO, NJ --
Jena Kaul surpassed the 1,000 career kill mark as Rowan swept out Ramapo (25-23, 25-19, 25-13) Thursday night in a New Jersey Athletic Conference matchup here at Esbjornson Gymnasium.
Kaul, who becomes the fourth player in team history to hit the career mark, needed four kills entering the match. The senior put down the milestone early in the second set. For the game, Kaul and
Jessica Smart each totaled 11 kills while
Abby Chadwick registered 10.
A 5-0 spurt in the first set finally put the Profs ahead (15-14), but the Roadrunners stayed within arm's reach as the teams fought through 11 ties and five lead changes. Now at 23-23, back-to-back kills from Kaul and
Ava Best gave Rowan a 1-0 edge.
In the second, Smart recorded three kills as part of a 4-0 run to put Rowan up, 18-13. Later in the frame, another 4-0 stretch helped put the wraps to give the home team a two-set advantage.
The Profs scored the first six points of the third set and did not look back. Ramapo tried to get back in it, pulling within 14-11, but Rowan ran off nine in a row to open up a double digit lead. Kaul sealed up the win with a kill to help the team move to 2-0 in NJAC play.
Valentina Palen led the Roadrunners with nine kills and seven digs. Katie Bishop kicked in 17 assists and six digs.
