MONTCLAIR, NJ -- Montclair State ended Rowan's three-game winning streak as the Profs fell on the road, 69-61, Wednesday evening in a New Jersey Athletic Conference tilt.
Reagan Russo led the Profs with a career-best 14 points as the senior also added three rebounds, two steals, and two assists.
Kate Herlihy kicked in 13 points as Rowan (11-6, 7-3 NJAC) shot 50% from the floor (23-of-56) and held a 34-30 rebound advantage but the team committed a season-high 27 turnovers and was 1-for-10 from behind the arc for the game.
The Red Hawks' Alexis Strollo was one of four Montclair State players in double figures with a game-high 18 points. Her back-to-back three-pointers in the second quarter gave the home team an 11-point lead early in the period (21-10).
Montclair led 35-25 at the half and 59-43 after three quarters. The Profs cut a 13-point deficit in the fourth all the way down to a 64-60 contest after jumper from
Shayla Johnson with 2:50 remaining. Johnson scored six of the nine points in that stretch to help put Rowan back in the contest. The Profs were held without a field goal over the final minutes as the Red Hawks claimed its sixth win in a row to improve to 14-3 and 8-2.
Johnson finished with eight points and four rebounds. Teammate
Charlotte Carlies led the team in rebounds with eight while Herlihy was tops with four assists.
Rowan returns home to take on New Jersey City in NJAC action this Saturday with a 3 p.m. tip at Esbjornson Gymnasium.
