NEWARK, NJ -
Kate Herlihy scored a game-high 23 points and
Shayla Johnson grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds to lead Rowan to a 73-57 road win over Rutgers-Newark (3-13; 0-9) in NJAC women's basketball action this afternoon. The win is Rowan's third in a row and improves the Profs to 7-2 in the league, and 11-5 overall.
Herlihy made 9-of-10 free throws and added three assists and two steals in the win.
Kelli Kuenzel was the only other Prof in double figures with 12 points as she connected on 4-for-8 from three-point range.
Rowan took a 19-13 lead at the end of the first quarter as it made 4-of-7 threes and  then expanded on that in the second, going up by 11, 28-17, after a Herlihy three-pointer. Rutgers-Newark closed out the half with a 6-0 run to close within 35-32 at halftime.
The Profs scored the first four points of the second half to go up 39-32, and built the lead to 47-36 on a three by Kuenzel. An 8-0 run by Rowan extended the lead to 52-36 late in the third quarter.
A pair of free throws by
Abigail Jazmin gave the Profs their biggest lead of the game, 69-51, at 5:07, and Rowan coasted the rest of the way.
Rowan next heads to Montclair State on Wednesday, January 22 before returning home on January 25 to host NJCU.
