PITMAN, NJ -- The New Jersey Athletic Conference cited
Michael Zarfati,
AJ Ryker,
Allie Palumbo, and
Vanessa Hutchinson in its awards for the week ending September 15th.
Zarfati captured the NJAC Football Offensive Rookie of the Week honor after catching a 28-yard touchdown on the first drive of the second half in Saturday's 30-20 home win over McDaniel. It was the only grab for the freshman on the day.
Ryker picked up the NJAC Football Defensive Rookie of the Week award after posting three tackles, an interception, and a pass breakup in the win on Saturday. The Prof defense limited the Green Terror to just five net rushing yards while posting six sacks and three interceptions.
Zarfati has six catches for 104 yards and two scores in two games this season. Ryker has racked up five tackles so far as well.
Palumbo earns her first NJAC Field Hockey Player of the Week honor at Rowan after totaling three goals and one assist in the Profs' 1-1 week. The senior scored twice in a 5-4 overtime loss at #25 Stevens, marking her first multiple-goal game as a Prof. She followed that by adding a goal and assists in the 4-0 victory at Arcadia, which snapped the team's two-game losing streak.
Palumbo, in her first year at Rowan after three years at Stockton, leads the Profs in scoring with three goals and three assists.
Hutchinson was named the NJAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week after being selected to the all-tournament team at this weekend's Knights Invitational at Neumann. In three matches, the junior compiled 61 digs 11 assists, and nine aces. She had game highs in digs in all three matches with her best game coming in the five-set matchup with Ursinus (23 digs, 6 assists, 2 aces).
Hutchinson is ranked second in the NJAC in digs (145) and digs per set (4.83).
After starting the year with five consecutive road games, Rowan Field Hockey (2-3) will play its first home contest of the year on Wednesday versus Catholic at 6 p.m. The volleyball team (5-3) travels to Messiah for a quad match starting on Friday and concluding on Saturday. Also on Saturday, football (2-0) travels to Ursinus for an evening showdown against the Bears beginning at 7 p.m.
