CORTLAND, NY -
Ryan Cleary's goal with six minutes to go helped #8 Rowan to a 1-1 tie with #2 Cortland in Top 10 men's soccer action that went down to the wire, in the Profs' first match as the nation's eighth-ranked team.
After the teams battled through 84 scoreless minutes, Rowan's
Jake Homowitz deivered a corner kick that Cleary headed into the bottom corner of the net, giving the Profs a 1-0 lead with 5:15 left in the game.
Cortland (5-0-1) scored the equalizer two minutes later, at 86:46, as Mateo Marra converted a free kick to force the 1-1 tie.
The teams were even with five shots on goal apiece, with Rowan's
Dylan Aportela making four saves in the net.
Rowan, now 2-1-2 overall, has played ranked teams on the road in the last three consecutive games, recording ties vs. #17 Franklin & Marshall and #2 Cortland, and defeating #24 Johns Hopkins.
After five straight away matches, the Profs will finally play at home on Tuesday, September 17 when they host Haverford.
