Green Scores a Career-High Five Goals, but Women's Lacrosse Suffers 19-11 Setback to #19 Christopher Newport

GLASSBORO, NJ – Nineteenth-ranked Christopher Newport scored nine goals in the second quarter to break away for a 19-11 win over Rowan in women's lacrosse action on a blustery day. The loss ruined a five-goal performance from Rowan junior Molly Green.

It marked a career-high in goals for Green while Rowan (3-8) also got two goals apiece from Elaina Corson and Alexis Lowry, with Fiona Lockhart chipping in with one.

The teams played a low-scoring first quarter, 1-1, with Calista Burke netting first goal of the game, before Christopher Newport (10-4) outscored the Profs, 9-5, in the second quarter. CNU's Julie Iapicca had three of her game-high seven goals in that quarter as the Captains held a 10-6 lead at halftime.

Green scored the first goal of the third quarter as Rowan pulled within, 10-7, but the Captains tallied two more to maintain a 12-7 lead. Green and Lowry scored consecutive goals for the Profs to cut the deficit to 12-9 late in the third quarter. CNU responded by outscoring Rowan, 6-2, in the final quarter to put away the win.

The visitors held a 31-26 advantage in shots, with Rowan goalie Mel Rodgers making eight stops on the day.

The Profs head on the road to face fifth-ranked Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday before opening the conference slate by hosting Kean on April 13th.
