Women's Lacrosse Edged by Washington College, 13-12; Burke Nets Career-High Four Goals

GLASSBORO, NJ -- Rowan dropped a heartbreaker to visiting Washington College as the Profs fell, 13-12, on a rainy Wednesday afternoon.

The Shorewomen scored twice in the final 1:10, including the eventual game-winner with 40 ticks remaining, capping an extremely tight contest in which no team led by more than two goals and had a total of seven ties in the contest.

Calista Burke poured in a career-best four goals while Hannah Lombardo and Alexis Lowry added two scores each. Molly Green, Elaina Corson, Trish Gillen, and Fiona Lockhart also tallied for Rowan.

Defensively, goalie Mel Rodgers totaled 11 saves for a new career high. Green (team-high six ground balls) totaled seven caused turnovers, also a personal best. Lombardo and Sophia Schiavo each had five draws respectively.

The Profs outshot Washington College, 13-5, in the first quarter, but the two teams remained tied at 3-3 after the first 15 minutes. Now down 5-3 midway in the second stanza, Lockhart set up Lowry and Burke added another score minutes later, yet the home team trailed 7-5 at the half.

Rowan came out firing in the third, holding a 10-5 advantage in shots. Two goals from Burke and another form Lowry over a four-minute span gave Rowan its first lead of the contest (8-7) with 8:19 in the frame. The Shorewomen's Mia Salvatierra netted the first of her four goals with another tally from Tobin Chambers to jump back ahead.

Trailing 11-9 with 10 minutes in the game, the Profs climbed back in it on goals from Green (7:32) and Burke (4:20). After getting a key caused turnover and a big save from Rodgers on consecutive possessions, Lombardo connected on a free-position goal with 1:57 left for a 12-11 lead.

But Washington College got a goal from Morgan Sullivan just 47 seconds later to knot things up for the seventh time. Salvatierra's goal with 40 seconds in the contest and teammate Anna Wilson controlling the ensuing draw control, helped seal the outcome.

Salvatierra's four goals paced the Shorewomen with Ashley Devlin adding two scores and two assists. Goalie McKenna Seashole recorded 17 stops.

Rowan will get back at it on Saturday with a road contest at Susquehanna starting at 1 p.m.
