Women's Lacrosse Edged by Scranton, 12-11, in Final Minutes

Mel Rodgers makes career-high 14 saves in goal

GLASSBORO, NJ – Scranton scored two goals in the final five minutes to pull past Rowan, 12-11, in women's lacrosse action today, in a contest that featured five ties and five lead changes played in cold and windy conditions.
 
Fiona Lockhart tied the game, 10-10, at 8:28 of the fourth qaurter and Elaina Corson scored the go-ahead goal with 6:16 remaining to give the Profs an 11-10 lead heading into the final minutes of the game. But Erin Reich scored for the Royals at 4:40 and then Kayleigh Stalter had the gamewinner at 2:55. As Scranton attempted to run out the clock in the final minute, Hannah Lombardo caused a turnover and Molly Green picked up the ground ball, but the Profs' last shot attempt was saved by Scranton goalie Lauren Boldis with 11 seconds to go.
 
The Profs came out strong and scored the game's first two goals, by Lombardo and Gillen. Rowan built up a 5-3 lead by the end of the quarter as Lombardo scored her second and Calista Burke and Green added one each.
 
It was all Scranton in the second quarter as the visitors shut out the home team and scored five straight heading into the third to own an 8-5 lead.

Rowan ended a scoreless streak of more than 20 minutes plus scoreless streak when Green scored at 10:01 of the third quarter. Burke, Trish Gillen, and Corson followed suit and Rowan took a brief 9-8 lead, before Scranton tied it up in the final two minutes of the quarter.
 
Gillen, Lombardo, Green, Burke and Corson scored two goals each for Rowan (3-5). Goalie Mel Rodgers made a career-high 14 saves in the loss, which was the Profs' fourth one-goal decision of the year.
 
Next up for Rowan is a game at Stevenson on Saturday afternoon.
