Women's Lacrosse Falls to Cabrini, 12-7, in Final Meeting of the Schools

RADNOR, PA – Cabrini put together a strong first half to defeat Rowan, 12-8, in non-league women's lacrosse action today, in the final meeting ever between the two schools. Elaina Corson and Fiona Lockhart scored two goals a piece but the Profs fell to 3-6 on the year.

Cabrini (6-2) scored six straight goals in the first and second quarters to run up a 7-1 lead by the 12-minute mark of the second. Corson got the Profs' offense going with a man-up goal at 11:15, assisted by Molly Green.

That started a run of four consecutive goals by Rowan, and Trish Gillen added another, assisted by Annie DiGiacomo, and then Lockhart scored an unassisted goal to pull the Profs within 7-4 at halftime.

Corson scored at 11:23 of the third, with the assist from Gillen, as Rowan closed the gap to 7-5. But Cabrini answered a minute later with a goal from Olivia Pace and the Cavaliers had an 8-5 lead.

Alexis Lowry took a pass from Calista Burke to narrow the Profs' deficit again, but Cabrini followed with two man-up goals to take a 10-6 lead. Lockhart scored her second, with the assist from Gillen, but it would be Rowan's final goal of the game as it trailed 10-7.

Cabrini, which will close at the end of this year, kept the Profs off the board in the fourth but added two insurance goals to provide the final margin.

The Cavaliers held a decided 30-15 advantage in shots on goal and Rowan goalie Mel Rodgers was forced to make a career-high 18 saves.

Rowan gets a break this weekend and will look to rebound on Thursday, April 4th when it visits Stevenson in a rescheduled game.
