GLASSBORO, NJ -- New Jersey City handed Rowan a 56-44 defeat Wednesday evening in a New Jersey Athletic Conference matchup in the final home game of the regular season here at Esbjornson Gymnasium.
Sabrina Araujo led the Profs with 12 points while adding four rebounds and a steal.
Charlotte Carlies snared a team-best 10 boards and added four points and two blocks.
Rowan led 12-8 after the first quarter and later use a 7-0 run to close out the second quarter to lead 23-20 at the half as
Eliana Santana's connected on a twisting layup with seconds before the break.
The Gothic Knights put together a 17-6 run to start the third, and would outscore Rowan, 22-9 for the frame. NJCU's Damaris Rodriguez netted 11 points in that third. Teammate Dayjah Anderson completed a three-point play for the final points of the frame with just over a minute to play, giving the visitors a 42-32 edge heading into the fourth.
A basket from
Kate Herlihy and a three from Araujo helped Rowan climb to 46-37 early in the fourth, but NJCU's Tahirah Kelley hit a triple from the right wing with 5:58 remaining in the contest to restore a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
Araujo drained three of the Profs' six three-pointers on the evening. Santana registered six points, four boards, two assists, and a steal.
Rodriguez finished with a game-high 21 points with teammate Kelley adding 11 along with 10 caroms for a double double.
Next up for Rowan is a road contest at Rutgers-Newark this Saturday, February 10th in a 4 p.m. start. With a win in either its final two contests, the Profs can clinch the final playoff berth in the upcoming NJAC Tournament.
