Holt, Herlihy Pace Women's Basketball Over Rutgers-Newark, 65-49

Holt posts first double-double and Herlihy scores team-high 16 points

NEWARK, NJ- - Savanna Holt scored 10 points and grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds to notch her first career double-double as Rowan knocked off Rutgers-Newark, 65-49, in New Jersey Athletic Conference women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.  Rowan evens its record to 12-12 overall and improves to 9-8 in the conference with one game to go in the regular season. The Profs have clinched a berth in the 2023 NJAC Tournament and will begin play on February 17th in the quarterfinals.
 
The Profs placed four players in double figures led by Kate Herlihy with 16 points while nine of Holt's 10 points came from three made three-pointers. Jess McLaughlin also contributed 11 points and Nicole Mallard added 10 points as she connected on 4-of-5 from the field. 
 
Samiyah Horton had a game-high 21 points for the Scarlet Raiders.
 
Rutgers-Newark (2-22; 1-16) started off the first quarter on a 9-0 run thanks to seven points from Horton. Mallard scored the first points of the game for Rowan off a layup, spurring a 16-2 run to close out the first quarter as Holt contributed two made three-pointers.
 
Rowan maintained a lead in the second quarter, with a Holt free throw giving the Profs a 24-17 lead, the largest of the quarter. Sabrina Araujo contributed three points during the quarter.
 
Rowan ended the first half up, 24-21, before taking control in the third quarter. A Herlihy jumper capped off a 14-5 run to start the quarter before the Profs finished the third up 48-33 as the junior scored eight points in the period.
 
Rowan went up by as many as 18 points in the fourth quarter after a Herlihy layup, maintaining a double-digit lead throughout the final frame. McLaughlin also contributed five points during the fourth.
 
Rowan closes out the regular season on Wednesday at Montclair State in a 5:30 p.m.start.
