Mallard and Santana Net 20 Points Each as Women's Basketball Defeats Kean, 74-65, on Senior Day

GLASSBORO, NJ – Nicole Mallard and Eliana Santana had 20 points apiece to cap off their "Senior Day" to lead Rowan to a 73-65 win over Kean in NJAC women's basketball action at Esby Gym. The Profs (10-11 overall) improved to 8-7 in the conference on Rowan's celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day.

Game Highlights
 
Mallard connected on 8-of-15 from the field, while Santana scored a season-high as she converted 8-of-16 after they were honored in a pre-game ceremony along with fellow tri-captain Savanna Holt. Charlotte Carlies tied her career-high with 12 points and recorded two blocks.
 
Rowan took control in the third quarter and broke a 49-49 tie with eight straight points in the final three minutes, including four from Mallard. And after a three-pointer by Kristina Johnson, the Profs held a 57-51 edge at the end of the period.
 
Baskets by Santana, Mallard and a three by Kate Herlihy in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter gave Rowan its biggest lead of the game, 64-51.

Kean cut it to 67-59 with 2:38 remaining, but the Profs iced it from the foul line as Carlies, Reagan Russo and Holt made two free throws each in the final two minutes.

Mallard scored 12 of the Profs' 20 points in the second quarter and helped Rowan build up a 29-22 lead with over six minutes to play. Kean answered back as Gigi Gamble scored all of the Cougars' points as they pulled within 33-31. Kristina Johnson gave the Profs a 39-38 lead but Kean pulled ahead, 41-38, at halftime after Gamble hit a three-pointer in the final minute.
 
Trailing 17-10 early on, Rowan scored the final nine points of the first quarter to take a 19-17 lead as Santana netted four in the run.
 
The Profs will play their final home game of the regular season on Wednesday when they host NJCU at 5:30 p.m.
