Volleyball Downs DeSales and SUNY-Maritime in Home Tri-Match

GLASSBORO, NJ -- Rowan extended its winning streak to four matches after the Profs swept a home tri-match with DeSales and SUNY-Maritime with identical 3-1 scores on Saturday here at Esbjornson Gymnasium.

The Profs took out DeSales (25-9, 20-25, 25-23, 25-7) in the day's first match. The Bulldogs then bettered SUNY-Maritime, 3-0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-12) before Rowan swept the Privateers (25-4, 22-25, 25-14, 25-15).

First match (DeSales)
The team fired out 51 kills en route to a .191 hitting percentage, led by a match-high 13 kills from rookie Cordrey Hutton. Jena Kaul kicked in 11 and Ava Best with nine. Defensively, three players had double-digit digs spearheaded by Gabriella Cooper who had a season-best 19 digs while adding five of the team's 12 aces.

A 16-0 run in the first set helped the home team run away with a 1-0 lead. In the second set, the Profs looked to climb ahead but a late push from the Bulldogs helped even the match up. Cordrey, Kaul, and Best each had four kills apiece in the third set where Rowan fought through 10 ties to go up, 2-1. DeSales had nine hitting errors and just two kills in the fourth and decisive set.

It was all Profs as the team put together its second-best offensive output on the season, going 54-13-112 for a .366 hitting percentage.

Alexa Kelleher had the hot hand in this match, totaling a career-high 12 kills as did Abigail Chadwick with nine. Kyra Hissner tied a personal best with 10 enders while Ciara Bradley and Ava Best put down eight apiece.

Leading 2-1, the Profs fell behind early as the Privateers ran off the set's first five points. After working it to an 11-11 score, Rowan took control for good with seven points in a row capped by back-to-back kills from Hissner to go on and pick up the sweep.

Rowan will host William Paterson on Tuesday in a NJAC clash in a 7 p.m. start.
