NEWARK, NJ -- Rowan scored a 3-0 sweep at Rutgers-Newark in New Jersey Athletic Conference action Tuesday night (25-13, 25-16, 25-19).
Maya Iovacchini posted 10 more kills for the third time in the last five matches, totaling a match-high 13.
Ciara Bradley kicked in nine kills while
Jena Kaul and
Ava Best each recorded seven.
Iovacchini and the Profs got off to a good start in the first set as the team hit .333 (16-6-30) with the senior totaling six kills in the frame without a hitting error. The squad used a 9-2 run midway through the set to open up an eight-point edge (16-8) and later a five-point swing to go up 1-0.
The second set saw the Scarlet Raiders turn a 9-3 deficit into a one-point game (9-8). Rowan took advantage of nine hitting errors from the home team, four of which came during a 6-0 spurt to give the Profs a 20-12 lead. A kill from Iovacchini and an ace from
Abigail Webster help put the wraps on a two-set lead.
In the third, Rowan fell behind 15-9, but closed the win out on a 16-4 stretch as Iovacchini and Bradley combined for eight kills during the match-clinching scoring run.
Bella Foster led the Scarlet Raiders with 10 kills. Angelyse Orellana kicked in 15 assists and eight digs with teammate Maryann Ijeh posting five blocks (two solo). The team posted a 16-20-79 hitting line (-.051).
Next up for the Profs is a home contest this Saturday, as Rowan welcomes Lebanon Valley on Senior Day as part of the Homecoming festivities. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
