MONTCLAIR, NJ -- Montclair State defeated Rowan, 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-20), Thursday night in a New Jersey Athletic Conference matchup.
Jena Kaul registered 14 kills and 10 digs for her second double double of the year to lead the Profs.
Maya Iovacchini and
Ava Best each added six. Rowan posted a 36-17-128 (.148) hitting line in the contest.
The Red Hawks had three players in double-digit kills led by Bryn Bautista (15), Sarah Capone (13), and Camryn Muuss (11) as Montclair State hit .269 on the night.
An early back-and-forth in the first set saw nine ties and five lead changes. MSU put together a 13-3 run midway to go up 20-13 and help take the opening set.
Rowan looked to respond in the second, getting out to a 12-6 lead capped by a four-point swing off a kill from
Abby Chadwick. However, the Red Hawks pulled ahead, 17-15, after netting six points in a row. Now down 24-21, Chadwick tried to keep the set alive with two more kills, but Capone's ender gave Montclair a two-set advantage.
The third set was tied at 9-9 before the Red Hawks swung a seven-point rally to help stay ahead for good.
Chadwick finished with three kills and 12 digs.
Brooke Adams added 30 assists and
Vanessa Hutchinson collected 16 digs, both team highs.
The Profs head to Washington, D.C. this weekend participating in a tri-match at Catholic along with Hood. Rowan takes on the host Cardinals at noon followed by a matchup with the Blazers.
