Volleyball Goes 1-1 in Tri-Match at Catholic

WASHINGTON, DC -- Rowan went 1-1 on Saturday in a tri-match at Catholic, falling in five sets to the host Cardinals (25-27, 25-20, 17-25, 25-23, 15-10) but bounced back with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-16) sweep of Hood.

First Match (Catholic)
The Profs led 2-1 before Catholic ran off the final two sets as the back-and-forth tilt featured 25 ties and nine lead changes.

Rowan had four players with eight or more kills led by Jena Kaul who posted a match-high 19. Isabel Kirchner kicked in 13 while Ciara Bradley and Ava Best each added eight. Bradley also contributed a career-high four aces and chipped in three solo blocks.

The Profs would take the first set by breaking a 25-25 tie with two points in a row off of Cardinal mistakes. Catholic used a 9-3 spurt midway in the second to stay ahead the rest of the way in evening things at 1-1.

Kaul had six kills in the third set as Rowan got off to a big lead early. The Cardinals tied it at 2-2 as the home team overcame a 22-20 deficit to win, 25-23.

Best's kill in the fifth pulled it to 12-10, but Catholic netted the final three points to clinch it.

Second Match (Hood)
The Profs had a season-low eight errors as the squad recorded 42 kills on a .340 hitting clip. Kaul (13 kills), Kyra Hissner (10), and Bradley (nine) paced the offense while setter Brooke Adams assisted 33 of the 42 kills.

A 10-4 run in the first set opened up an 8-3 Rowan edge. A block from Kaul and Best put the wraps on the 25-15 score. Trailing 15-14 in set #2, two kills from Kaul was part of a 6-0 sprint to help the team go up, 2-0.

In the third, the Profs ended the set and the match with seven points in a row for the sweep.

Rowan returns home on Tuesday, October 22nd for a NJAC matchup with Kean at 7 p.m. from the confines of Esbjornson Gymnasium.
