Volleyball Splits Home Tri-Match with Misericorida and SUNY Canton

GLASSBORO, NJ -- Rowan split a home tri-match against Misericordia and SUNY Canton on Saturday as the Profs had its five-game win streak snapped in a 3-0 defeat to the Cougars, but rebounded with a 3-0 sweep of the Kangaroos in the day's final contest.

The middle match saw Misericordia post a 3-0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-12) decision over SUNY Canton.

Match Highlights vs. SUNY Canton

First Match (Misericordia)
The two teams combined for 18 ties and eight lead changes but it was the Cougars posting a 25-20, 25-23, 25-23 score over the home Profs.

Jena Kaul and Ciara Bradley each recorded six kills with Ava Best adding five, as Rowan totaled 28 kills on 95 attempts as a team (.063).

Meghan Peters paced the Cougars with a game-high 13 kills. Teammate Keira McCaffery kicked in eight kills and four blocks (one solo).

After getting out to an 8-3 lead in the first set, Rowan faced an 11-4 run by Misericordia to take its first lead. Back-to-back aces from Brooke Adams put the home team back ahead, 16-14, and later a kill from Best made it 20-18. However, the Cougars took the first set thanks to a 7-0 run for a 25-20 score.

Neither team led by more than three points in the second set as the frame featured eight ties and three lead changes. Despite five kills from Kaul in the frame, the Cougars were able to sneak out a 25-23 score to go up 2-0.

The Profs put together a late rally in the third set as a block from Best and Isabel Kirchner capped a 4-0 spurt for a 19-19 score. After an ace from Evalyn Vires to put Rowan up 23-22, Misericordia was able to close it out with three-straight points.

Second Match (SUNY Canton)
As a team, Rowan hit over .300 for the fourth time this season (42-10-99) led by Kaul (11 kills) and Maya Iovacchini (10 kills) in the 3-0 win (25-19, 25-11, 25-14).

Adams added 31 assists, five aces, six digs, and three kills in the win. Vanessa Hutchinson led the dig department with 16 while Nia Ipeker and Hutton Cordrey (eight kills) had 11 apiece.

Rowan totaled 15 kills in the first set and assembled a 13-0-34 team hitting line in the second to go up 2-0. In the third and decisive set, the Profs produced a 10-2 run to erase an early 2-0 deficit and go on to lock up the three-set sweep.

Action continues on Thursday, October 17th as Rowan travels to Montclair State for a New Jersey Athletic Conference matchup starting at 7 p.m.
